So, me and (afiresong) have heard that we're probably going to be living in Lawrence House next year as first years.

The Smith website doesn't really offer much information or pictures of it (except for the little illustrated one) so I was wondering what all of you could tell us about Lawrence? Are the rooms nice/big? Good house community? Does anyone have pictures?

Mucho thanks in advance!!!

Although I now live off campus due to unparalleled hatred for Smith, I have to say that Lawrence is a nice house as far as dorms go. Don't bank on the rooms being too huge your first year, but they get larger as you move up the ranks. As for community, it was sort of a laissez-faire attitude when I was there two years ago--might have changed since then, though. Show up for TV time and you'll be fine.

Welcome new Lawrencian. :) The first year doubles in Lawrence are decent. The corner rooms are a bit on the small side and you will have to share a closet. The fourth floor doubles are nice sized and some have two closets. House community varies by year and by who is in the house. A lot of seniors aren't returning to the house and a lot of people moved out. So, there will be mostly new people in the house.

The housekepper, Peggy, is absolutely amazing and the custodian Al is a super sweet guy who is always willing to help you out. I have some pictures I can send you. You can email me at jfaria@smith.edu and i can send them to you. you can also find me on aim at unhookingstars if you want to ask some more specific questions.

Hope that helps!

I just finished my first year, and as a former first-year Lawrencian, I must say, it was pretty nice. Most of the first-year doubles aren't that big, but the ones on the fourth floor have a lot of floor space, I think to make up for the lack of head space, and my room had two closets and two bookshelves, so hope for 409!

ugh room 102 is totally one of the best first year doubles in the house

a) its one the first floor niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice
b) its like the only room in the house with new furniture
c) its pretty big and the big dressers provide a nice divider

did you know chris pureka works at smith? ...check the directory under pureka

My best friend from last year lived in 102, so I spent a lot of time there... As a warning, you'll need to, like, keep your windows open all winter, it gets wicked hot in there. But it's so convenient to live on the first floor! The room is carpeted, and has a huge closet and nice, new furniture. The drawback is that you're next to the HR, but that's not too bad.

I lived there the past two years and I decided to move this year as my version of "Junior year abroad" since I'm a biochem major and I didnt feel like going abroad and coming back to a lot of hard classes senior year. However I will probably be in/around/about the house quite often as I sort of live in Sabin-Reed and other parts of the science quad. Who knows, I might be back for senior year. A lot of the rising juniors decided to move out this year or went abroad so there are only a total of 2 juniors that I personally know who will be in the house, but they are both awesome, as are all the seniors and sophmores who stayed in the house. Lawrence is one of the quieter houses, and pretty much any floor you live on there will be quiet nuts, just a heads up. In 102, you are next to the HR suite and across from the tippy room (study), and the TV room is about 10 feet away. The ceiling is really high too. The only other 2 people living on the floor is Amanda, a senior returning from being abroad in Africa (I think she took that room anyway), and a sophmore, and I dont remember who.

It is a nice house, and you will totally have a blast.

I have tons of pictures of Lawrence, after living there for the past four years (I just graduated in May). Do you want outer pictures, or specific room pictures, or what? I'd imagine Jillian's pictures are similar to what I have :).

I was the HP of the house last year, so I know a whooole lot of random info about the house, if you have any specific questions. Welcome to Lawrence! Yay Lawrence House Pride!
